My life is an Excellent Adventure using the “You Are What You Think book"
Everyone's Limitations Are Self-Imposed
ONE OF THE GREATEST causes of unhappiness is nothing but a myth, or a false belief.
It is the belief that your life is the result of outside influences,
and that most of us have little or no control over the circumstances of
our lives.
It is strange that this is so, because the one point every great
philosopher and teacher who ever lived agrees upon is that our lives are
but the outward manifestation of our inner thoughts and attitudes.
MOST OF US FEEL that there are limits imposed upon us by some “unseen force.”
“I could never have that,” or “I’d never be able to do those things,” are frequent thoughts.
It’s true that there are limits to what we can have or do, but they are limits we impose upon ourselves with our own minds.
IN MY OPINION THE greatest single achievement in the entire history
of sports was Roger Bannister’s running of the mile in less than four
minutes. Every authority on track and field and every great runner
believed this to be impossible.
All this negative conditioning his mind had been subjected to, had to be overcome and erased.
He had to deny the belief that a limit existed, and then he had to be able to conceive himself as succeeding, and believe he could achieve it
THUS WE ARRIVE at the statement: “Whatever a man can conceive, and believe, he can achieve.”
The purpose of this series of articles is to prove this statement, and to show you methods that will make your daily living happier and your life much more interesting and fulfilling.
I am absolutely convinced that this can be done quite easily, and
this conviction is the result of true experiences. (During the last ten
years I have seen the application of simple principles, or natural
laws, change the lives of hundreds of men who were without hope, as I
will explain later.)
IT DOESN’T MAKE any difference what your circumstances are at this moment; they can be changed.
You have the power within you right now to accomplish it.
Therefore, you no longer will be content to go along as you have been.
If you happen to be in poor health, you will begin to see an immediate improvement. If your financial condition is poor, you will learn how to attract abundance to you.
If you seem to be depressed much of the time, your friends will hardly
recognize you with the cheerful air of optimism that will be yours at
all times.
THERE IS NOT a condition or a circumstance that won’t be improved to your satisfaction, as amazing as it may sound to you now.
How can I make statements like these with so much assurance ? Because the methods I will give you are based on NATURAL LAWS AND PRINCIPLES, there is no margin for error.
It covers profound and dynamic truths conveyed in a few potent words
that kindle a renewed sense of awareness of our limitless latent inner
resources waiting to burst into the open. It comprises practical
expressions that have the potential to bring success, health, wealth and
enduring happiness.
They weren’t thought up by any human being; they were simply discovered, and so they work one hundred percent of the time for anyone who cares to put them into practice.
WHY AREN’T THEY more universally used ? Probably because these laws
are so simple, they are often clouded in intellectual terms and the
great truths behind them are lost.
The only thing necessary to effect a change in a person’s life is
desire for change. In fact, if your desire for a change for the better
isn’t very strong (and this is true with many people) we will show you
how a desire can be created.
Furthermore, these principles are no respecter of persons. It does
not matter what your present position in life is, they will work for you
exactly the same as they will work for everyone else. You will find
that nothing that has happened to you in the past will have any
influence on what will happen to you from now on !
PERHAPS YOU ARE satisfied with the type of life you are now leading.
If you are, I suggest that you do not follow these articles.
I say this very sincerely, because once you get a glimpse of the
vistas that will open up to you, you will find that life has much more
to offer than you thought possible.
Therefore, you no longer will be content to go along as you have been.
IN SUBSEQUENT articles I will tell how some of the most desperate
convicts in the world turned their lives around by applying these simple
principles, and how you can apply them to your lives.
We will discover the methods the ancient sages used to overcome
